Psalm 100:1-3 “Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful songs. Know that the Lord is God.” At Jubilee Christian School, it is our main goal to keep Christ at the center of all we do. Colossians 3:17 says that in whatever we do, do it to the Glory of God. In this we are striving to do our best in whatever we do. In addition to being Christ Centered, Jubilee Christian School believes in providing our students with a well-rounded education, which includes music for our preschool, elementary, and middle school students. Our Preschool students are given the opportunity to learn through singing and doing motions as well as singing worship songs during chapel. In Kindergarten through second grade we begin the fundamentals of music including; worship, history, listening, rhythm, music symbols, notes, pitch, tempo and dynamics. Included in the curriculum students will also make their own instruments, learn songs from around the world, create movements that support the lyrics to our songs, and learn many worship songs. The third through fifth grade classes continue in their learning with a more advanced music curriculum which increases in complexity each year. Starting in third grade students are given the opportunity to learn recorder. In addition to this, students also continue to listen, sing songs from around the world, work on rhythm, learn melody, harmony and how to read and write music. Fourth grade continues their learning on the recorder and adds students being able to play different forms of music as well as more challenging music. This is followed by fifth grade where students continue to grow in their recorder skills as well as begin to analyze music. In this year students will be able to create simple melodies on their own. Between sixth through eighth grade, students are able to participate in worship band. In worship band they can choose to learn how to play keyboards, guitar, bass, and drums. Not onlyare they learning how to worship God through song, they are also learning how to lead others in worship. In addition to increasing their abilities in music, learning music history and theory; middle school students add more in their performance aspects through learning how to play for an ensemble. As our students continue to grow in their knowledge and understanding of music, we look forward to what the Lord has planned in being able to add more musical elements to our school. Psalm 98:4-6 “Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth, burst into jubilant song with music; make music to the Lord with the harp, with the harp and the sound of singing, with trumpets and the blast of the ram’s horn— shout for joy before the Lord, the King.”
