“Who would guess, hearing him speak so articulately against global speculation in international forums, that the same ‘anything goes’ ruling applies at home, where priority is given to politics even if it means degrading our institutions,” he asks.
“How to explain that this is same statesman who appeals to the international community to address speculation in the prices of oil and food and has not moved a single finger of his mighty hand to prosecute and punish the corruption that robs us of so many opportunities for development?
“Who would believe that he refuses, with arguments that go on a tangent, to enforce the law that allocates a minimum of 4% of GDP to education?
“There was a time when his convincing words did not allow for these flagrant inconsistencies to be seen, or the frequent divorce between his words and his deeds, between his speeches and actions and omissions, but time, relentless time, does not spare even governments, especially when they are out of sync with the governed, until one day we realize that the charm has passed. The disappointment is so well reflected in the most recent polls.”
